Imagine waking up in a wonderful eco-friendly Kasbah (castle) at the foothills of Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, opening your balcony door to look out over the lush valley where uplifting bougainvillea and other native flowers abound, and distant majestic mountains surround far-off Berber villages, before wandering over to th main house for a mint tea (or coffee!) followed by restorative & dynamic yoga on the roof terrace beneath the warm Spring sunshine.
After a hearty, wholesome breakfast our local guides will take us on a mountain walk, passing olive groves, stark mountainous landscape, meeting locals at work in Berber villages, and discovering valleys, groves and meadows – all from the Kasbah’s doorstep.
I’ve led this Yoga & Walking Retreat twice before (April, 2015, and April 2016) for Satvada Retreats, at Kasbah Angour, which is just a 40 minute transfer from Marrakesh, and an affordable flight with EasyJet. These retreats, set at the foothills of Morocco’s superlative Atlas Mountains, are very popular and aim to strike a rejuvenating balance between al fresco activity, and rest (the sun loungers beside the pool make for a fabulous few hours R&R post walking or yoga!).
What’s involved: Two daily yoga classes (one in the morning, before walking, and the other early evening, before dinner). The yoga is a combination of Hatha and Dru – flowing, gentle, therapeutic, dynamic at times, and with lots of focus on subtle energies/chakra rebalancing, visualisations, guided meditations etc. The morning yoga will be more movement orientated, while the evening session will be more focused on meditation and gentle, restorative stretching after our walks. Full (generous) board, daily guided mountain walks, large en-suite bedrooms with terraces.
This holiday is suitable for: Yogis who love mountains, being outdoors, walking, and practicing yoga surrounded by the natural beauty of Morocco. The walks are led by an experienced and friendly local guide who is very familiar with the landscape and terrain, are different each day and classified as moderate so they are suitable for most people who are reasonably active. The yoga is very accessible for all levels, from beginners to more experienced practitioners.
